The reception of international students takes place in the most diverse universities around the world. It happens in several ways, without a ready-made recipe for what is right or wrong, as an extremely versatile process. At the Federal University of Santa Maria-UFSM, until the first semester of 2022, this reception was concentrated in the first week of classes of the period, mainly due to the reduced number of professionals on the International Affairs Office - SAI team. However, welcoming foreigners is not just a week of reception activities. It is necessary to follow up and monitor them throughout their mobility, due to the lack of a support network, cultural differences and language barriers. Therefore, the objective of this work is to present the way in which the Student Relations Unit has been developing its activities and the impact of these actions on the internationalization process of UFSM (which is the number 1 challenge of its Institutional Development Plan). The result of the implementation of the unit and the change in the dynamics of its work is the creation of biannual schedules of activities for international students with innovative cultural actions, such as exchanging experiences with the institution's indigenous students, promoting games and activities typical of the region and the country, with the help and partnership of various sectors of the institution and the city, in addition to health promotion actions. In view of the above, we conclude that effective reception allows greater monitoring and support of foreigners, the identification and rapid fulfillment of their needs, the socialization of foreigners with the academic and local community, provides integration among international students from different countries, creates a support network among them, generates good memories of experiences, enables cultural exchange, presents local culture and promotes the city and state on the international circuit, besides that it must involve not only the institution, but also the external community. The experience of a continuous welcome throughout the year has proved to be important for foreigners at the university, who end up establishing a better and greater bond with the institution and performing better.

BEAMInter – Experimental Bureau for Support on Mobility and Internationalization at IFPR Curitiba Campus
Oral PresentationMobility of student/professor/ researcher, staff 09:00 AM - 11:00 PM (America/Sao_Paulo) 2025/04/30 12:00:00 UTC - 2025/05/01 02:00:00 UTC
This presentation will show and discuss the recent creation of a bureau to support mobility and internationalization actions within the IFPR Curitiba campus in 2024, especially with the aim of making the information, characteristics and demands constituting this type of action more accessible for participation by the student community and professionals (academic and administrative staff). The planning and implementation of projects as the one presented here follow the important approval of IFPR Internationalization Policy by late 2023. Since the creation of this bureau, we have been providing (additional) support so that applications from members of our community are successfully carried out with our help and we have been working hard so that more opportunities for academic mobility abroad are experienced by our students and staff. In addition to the face-to-face services, the bureau offers activities to student groups and the campus collective through theme lectures and assistance sessions in various procedures and registration stages in order to provide greater familiarity with the topic of internationalization. On-line work is also developed so that information reaches our public faster. As evidence of our recent initiatives, the presentation will showcase examples of actions carried out (in-person and on-line) with our students and staff such as: a) Mediation with student community for short-term mobility to Portugal (IFPR-IPB); b) In-person presentations related to Telles Scholarship 2024/2025; c) Creation of channels for direct access concerning Telles Scholarship 2024/2025 forms, procedures and extra support; d) Creation of channels for direct contact with whole campus community concerning info on calls, scholarships, opportunities etc; e) In-person presentations concerning opportunities with Campus France Brasil; f) Selection of 2 local high-school students for study grants concerning activities in the bureau. Also within this scope, the bureau has been developing welcoming activities for foreign students who choose IFPR Campus Curitiba as a destination for their studies outside their countries of origin, particularly through AFS, our current associate, like g) Integration/Induction activities with foreign exchange students currently in our campus; h) Educational and administrative mediation with teaching and registry staff concerning foreign exchange students in our campus. By trying to make internationalization processes better known and more accessible to our community, our focus is to provide consistent and updated information that we receive from both our institutional superiors as well as through constant scanning of calls and offers with various institutions and organizations worldwide, especially the ones that offer financial aid of different sorts and scales. With luck this presentation will get priceless contributions from event participants at FAUBAI and hopefully receive constructive feedback on how to consolidate our efforts to reach a greater number of people at IFPR Campus Curitiba with more quality, free-of-charge services.

Desafíos de la Movilidad: caso UCASAL.
Oral PresentationMobility of student/professor/ researcher, staff 09:00 AM - 11:00 PM (America/Sao_Paulo) 2025/04/30 12:00:00 UTC - 2025/05/01 02:00:00 UTC

Oral PresentationMobility of student/professor/ researcher, staff 09:00 AM - 11:00 PM (America/Sao_Paulo) 2025/04/30 12:00:00 UTC - 2025/05/01 02:00:00 UTC
