Criado na Universidade Federal Fluminense (UFF) em 2012 pela Superintendência de Relações Internacionais (SRI) em parceria com o Instituto de Letras (EGL), o Programa de Universalização de Línguas Estrangeiras (PULE) surge da compreensão de que a democratização do processo de internacionalização acadêmica no ensino superior depende da difusão do ensino de línguas estrangeiras de maneira ampla e acessível. O programa, iniciado com turmas regulares de ensino de línguas alemã, espanhola, francesa, inglesa e italiana, hoje conta com mais de 500 alunos regulares integrando cursos com duração total de três anos nas línguas originais, acrescidas da língua chinesa, além de ter se expandido para outros campi, atender servidores técnico-administrativos e programas de pós-graduação, e fornecer exames de proficiência linguística para os editais de mobilidade internacional.

A trajetória do projeto será relatada, junto de dados e indicadores de crescimento observados nos anos de existência do projeto. Ao longo da apresentação serão apresentados também elementos componentes do projeto, os fundamentos da política linguística que levaram a sua criação, e os elementos institucionais que levaram à sua expansão.

In a world facing urgent environmental challenges, universities play a pivotal role in equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to drive sustainable transformation.
Universities must evolve to cultivate not only academic knowledge but also the critical competencies needed to address complex global issues. This session will explore forward-thinking educational strategies that develop critical awareness of sustainability and leadership capabilities essential for systemic change.


Key topics and approaches that will be covered include:


- Climate Shadow: Understanding this emerging concept that highlights the broader, often invisible environmental impacts of personal and institutional actions beyond traditional carbon footprints. It encourages deeper reflection on individual behaviors and systemic influences on the environment.
  
- Inner Development Goals (IDGs): Introducing the framework of IDGs, which emphasizes the cultivation of inner capacities-such as complexity awareness, empathy, and critical thinking-that complement the SDGs, helping students develop the emotional and cognitive skills essential for sustainable leadership.


- Integrating Sustainability into Curricula: Discussing innovative ways to embed sustainability principles across various disciplines, ensuring that students from all fields are equipped with sustainability knowledge and critical thinking skills.


- Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Exploring how universities can break down academic silos to promote cross-disciplinary learning and research, fostering a more holistic understanding of sustainability challenges.


- Experiential Learning Opportunities: Highlighting case studies of sustainable international programs, internships, and partnerships with communities and industries that allow students to apply their knowledge in meaningful, practical contexts.

Societal, technological, and economic changes are transforming the operational environment of higher education institutions (HEIs). It is evident that modern-day challenges cannot be addressed with outdated methods.
National economies, regional issues, and global challenges, along with economic needs, necessitate the ability to adapt to and leverage the methodologies of HEIs. To equip students and societies with the competitive skills required, there is a growing need to enhance individuals' ability for international cooperation. Based on the strategic choice of Laurea University of Applied Sciences (Finland) to focus on Learning by Developing, this abstract focuses on acquiring the necessary skills for internationally oriented and work-life-focused learning. This learning is conducted simultaneously while studying at a HEI and is a problem-solving-based and rewarding way to generate new internationally skilled potential and competitiveness for local and national economies and societies.
The focus on Cross-cultural Working Life Connected (WLC) HEI studies is clear: HEI students become internationally oriented, motivated problem solvers and proactive learners.
This abstract is based on the WLC teaching model, which has been developed in the HEIComp project that is funded by EU Erasmus Capacity Building programme2023-2025. The goal of the HEIComp project is to enhance WLC education in five higher education institutions (HEIs) in Brazil and Paraguay. The HEIComp project is being implemented by three Brazilian HEIs and one company, two Paraguayan HEIs, as well as three European HEIs from Finland, Portugal and Romania.
The WLC model is based on the pedagogical approach "Learning by Developing (LbD), created by Laurea University of Applied Sciences, which emphasizes authentic and practical collaboration between working life, students, and lecturers and professors at a university.
This abstract examines international collaboration in WLC HEI Studies by integrating HEI studies with real-life challenges.  The WLC methodology includes mixed cross-cultural student teams guided by experienced professors and lecturers. These teams solve real-life problems assigned by external organizations. These studies are conducted as an integral part of mandatory / compulsory studies and international teams work together virtually on different time zones. 
For the conference, we are gathering information from existing research and will be executing a study. In the HEIComp project, cross-cultural WLC studies were conducted by the Brazilian and Paraguayan HEI partners in the spring of 2024. A study was carried out based on the experiences of students, teachers, and project clients involved in the WLC studies. In addition to the results of this research, we will conduct a study focusing on Laurea's international LbD student teams during 2024-2025. The aim of the research is to study how students learn about cross-cultural contexts in international mixed teams within authentic WLC work-life assignments. 
In the results, we will present the benefits that arise for students regarding cross-cultural contexts in WLC implementations assigned by external organisations. On the other hand, we will also outline the challenges related to cross-cultural contexts and how they should be considered when planning international WLC studies by professors.  

A parceria entre Inteli e ISPGAYA vai além de um simples acordo de colaboração. Ela não se limita ao compartilhamento de conhecimento técnico, mas também busca criar um ambiente onde a troca cultural seja uma parte central das atividades desenvolvidas. Ao identificar pontos de convergência, as instituições criaram um espaço colaborativo que incentiva a compreensão das especificidades culturais, tanto brasileiras quanto portuguesas, enriquecendo a experiência de estudantes e professores.Diferenças e Complementaridades entre as Instituições:Um dos aspectos mais interessantes dessa parceria é a diferença na origem e abordagem de cada instituição. O Inteli, uma instituição recente, é focada na inovação e adota a metodologia Baseada em Projetos (PBL). Essa abordagem prioriza o desenvolvimento de competências práticas e promove uma aprendizagem ativa, conectando teoria e prática de forma integrada.Por outro lado, o ISPGAYA, embora também voltado para a inovação, tem uma história mais longa, sendo fruto do trabalho de um grupo de docentes do ensino superior e estruturado como uma cooperativa de ensino. Sua metodologia baseada no ensino superior português.As diferenças mostram que a colaboração reconhecimento de pontos comuns e no compromisso com objetivos compartilhados, como a promoção da compreensão intercultural e o desenvolvimento acadêmico e social.A sustentabilidade de um acordo de colaboração internacional depende fortemente da identificação e valorização dos pontos em comum entre as instituições. Esses pontos  permitem a construção de uma parceria robusta e significativa. Algumas das áreas identificadas para colaboração incluem:Desenvolvimento Conjunto de Projetos: Que abordam temas como tecnologia, inovação e desenvolvimento sustentável foram identificados como de interesse comum. Essas iniciativas oferecem um espaço para que estudantes e docentes de ambas as instituições trabalhem em equipes mistas, integrando perspectivas culturais e acadêmicas.Trocas de Experiências Culturais: Prevê a realização de workshops, seminários e semanas temáticas que exploram a história e as especificidades culturais. Atividades ajudam a criar um ambiente de respeito e compreensão mútua, fortalecendo os laços culturais.Capacitação de Estudantes para ambiente Internacional: Iinclui treinamentos conjuntos em habilidades interculturais, workshops,sessões de orientação sobre as diferenças culturais e acadêmicas entre os dois países.Submissão de Projetos Institucionais: Aproveitam os pontos comuns na metodologia de PBL para criar programas .Buscam expandir a colaboração para além do campo estritamente acadêmico, promovendo a integração das comunidades locais de ambas as instituições. Isso inclui a participação de estudantes em projetos sociais nos dois países, o envolvimento de empresas locais em desafios acadêmicos conjuntos e a organização de eventos abertos à comunidade.Essas ações visam garantir que os frutos da parceria se estendam além das fronteiras do campus, criando um impacto positivo e duradouro nas comunidades que acolhem os estudantes e naquelas que os recebem durante seus intercâmbios.A experiência demonstra que uma parceria internacional eficaz deve ir além dos aspectos formais do intercâmbio. Ela precisa ser sustentada por uma visão compartilhada que valorize o intercâmbio cultural e reconheça o potencial de aprendizado mútuo entre as partes envolvidas. Assim, a parceria se torna uma plataforma para o desenvolvimento de competências globais para atuarem de forma sensível e eficaz em diferentes contextos culturais, promovendo uma educação  global e transformadora.

"Learning to live together" is one of the great global challenges today. The balance between social cohesion and diversity is complex, since it must combine recognition and respect for differences but emphasizing the ties that unite us as a society rather than those that separate us. Intercultural communication in the context of global citizenship allows us to address this challenge from a dialogical perspective. Intercultural dialogue from a global perspective, promotes the understanding of subjects from their particular social contexts, and contributes to the sustainable development that the globalized world requires.
In order to promote an understanding across diverse cultural contexts, students from Unaerp – Brazil, UFRO – Chile and Anhalt – Germany worked together for six weeks in a COIL/ VE program discussing Intercultural communication and Global Citizenship. The program allowed students and professors to share different views and perspectives related to the main topic.
